Kleines Glück das Brettspiel Haus

Kleines Glück, das Brettspiel Haus serves as a growing research hub and community space that welcomes encounters at all times of day. By using engaging with board games as a starting point, it facilitates local research and practice while engaging participants throughout Nantou Old Town 南头古城(also known as Jiujie街 ), the historical and inhabited center of Shenzhen City. Thanks to the efficient and interconnected networks, various intricacies within the old town’s logistics and processing systems were enabled to connected to Brettspiel Haus promptly and efficiently.
Key contributors included a hardware store owner with a comprehensive directory of local workers, Master Zhou who lent us a cutting board in exchange for a bottle of mineral water, and Master Wang, whose calligraphy is prominently displayed in many local eateries and who visited our shop every Saturday after helping with signage. Additionally, a logistics operator, who manages both a driving school and a large WeChat group of 6,000 members, and a local entrepreneur known for selling specialty products in winter and installing air conditioners in summer, played vital roles.
As Kleines Glück, das Brettspiel Haus evolved, it transitioned from a game room into a vibrant community hub. Many who played the game became research volunteers, and we invited guests from diverse professional backgrounds to participate in board game live streams and co-creation workshops. Gradually, this space -which often opened in the afternoon and stayed open until late at night- transformed into a community rest spot, gossip center, and shared office. It became a place for young professionals who did not want to return home immediately after work, children like Haohao doing kindergarten homework, onlookers, and waiting mothers. Unlike any conventional entertainment space, it became a place filled with stories and everyday interactions. Ultimately, these geographical records and stories of the urban space were transformed into a local board game representing Nantou Old Town: The B Side of Jiujie 九街B面.
